Mathew Robinson-Morris is regarded as the author of the pamphlet “Considerations on the Measures Carrying on with respect to the British Colonies in North America” (London, May 5, 1774) because the initials “Mr. R—b—n” appeared at the end of the second printing. His views were known to be favorable to America and his liberal disposition inclined him to endorse a high degree of personal liberty and local self-government. Reclusive later in life, he was considered “eccentric.”
