Roebuck was a gifted inventor who pioneered the industrial production process for sulfuric acid. He was also an early financier of James Watt’s steam engine. He was educated at Edinburgh and a well respected physician. In politics, he was a firm supporter of Parliament’s right to tax the colonies.
