Joshua Gee was likely the son of the wealthy Quaker merchant of the same name. The elder Joshua wrote extensively on subjects of trade and economics in the early decades of the 1700s, and purchased the estate outside of London where his son resided. While not well known in his own right, the younger Joshua’s family name still carried weight in an age when lineage mattered. Neither father nor son should be confused with the Boston minister of the early eighteenth century.
