Greatrakes (1723? To 1781) was an Irish Barrister with strong ties to Lord Shelburne and other Whigs. At various times he supported both the Rockingham Whigs and Pitt the Elder, and may well have contributed to the oppositionist essays of Junius. As both an Irishman and an Old Whig in his politics, Greatrakes had sympathy for the American cause.
