John Martin, not to be confused with the revolutionary American governor of Georgia, was an English Baptist minister and author.

Born in Lincolnshire, he trained for the law but became a minister following a conversion experience. He spent over forty years leading London’s Keppel Street Chapel. As a writer, he wrote on civil liberty and theology. Though a religious dissenter who valued private conscience, he held a cautious view of the American Revolution, seeking a balance of both liberty and civic order.
