Guizot was a member of the French liberal group known as the “Doctrinaires” during the Restoration. He taught history, was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, and served as Minister of the Interior, then Education, and Foreign Affairs. After the fall of the July Monarchy he returned to his academic post.
