Roger Williams

Roger Williams (1603 – 1683) was a Puritan minister, theologian, and the founder of Rhode Island. He was a staunch advocate for religious freedom and the separation of church and state. In 1644, he wrote his popular letter “Bloody Tenet, of Persecution.”
