Jay Cost is the Gerald R. Ford Visiting Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, as well as a visiting scholar at the Institute for Faith and Freedom at Grove City College.

He received his Ph.D. in political science with a focus on American political development from the University of Chicago. Cost’s research focuses on the American Founding, civic virtue, and the qualities of republican government. He is the author of four books, most recently James Madison: America’s First Politician, to be published by Basic Books in Fall 2021.
