Charles Darwin

1809–1882

Nationality: English

Historical Period: The 19th Century

Darwin studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and then theology at Cambridge before deciding to travel on the H.M.S. From the material he gathered from this voyage he developed the idea that life evolved over time from common ancestors by a process he called “natural selection.”
