This response to Johnson’s Taxation no Tyranny emphasizes the concord which had existed between Great Britain and the colonies in previous times. Now, though, “The Tories have forced us into a situation which threatens shipwreck.” The anonymous author argues for the importance of the rule of law, and the long history of legal limits on government overreach.
