Considérations sur les principaux événemens de la Révolution française, vol. 3

Volume 3 of a 3 volume work. Published shorlty after her death in 1817, this work is the first full-length history of the French Revolution written by a participant. Staël was the daughter of the last Controller-General before the Revolution, was active in politics throughout the 1790s, opposed Napoleon from exile in Switzerland, and organised an important salon of liberal opponents of the regime, the “Coppet” circle - named after her family estate on Lake Geneva. In her history of the Revolution Staël defends the principles of 1789 and limited constitutional government against the left (the Jacobins) and the right (Naopleon).
