Bio

Sir William Young was a conservative member of parliament whose father had fled to the West Indian islands because of his support of the Jacobite cause. Born in Antigua in 1724, William became a strong pro-slavery advocate and as a plantation owner in St Vincent and Tobago, he was known for his knowledge of the island plantations and was appointed Governor of Dominica in 1768. He was granted a baronetcy in 1770. He died in 1788.
