Bio
A lawyer and controversial member of the Irish Court of Admiralty from 1745-1756, Baillie was not afraid of taking controversial stances. As a defender of greater Irish autonomy, he ran into conflict with the English Court of Admiralty and they eventually pressed William Murray, then Attorney-General and later Lord Chief Justice Mansfiled, to remove him from his post. Baillie wrote in favor of the colonial cause in the 1770s against both Shebbeare and Johnson.
