With the winter holidays upon us it seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore one of Shakespeare's narrative poems for a briefer reading experience this month. A crucial piece of writing for establishing his importance as a young poet, Venus and Adonis provides a Shakespearean twist on a classical myth. Those who attended the November meeting on Comedy of Errors might continue to consider the way that Shakespeare tangles with his classical sources. We can also think about the kind of reputation Shakespeare is trying to establish with this work.
