Pieter de la Court was a Dutch cloth manufacturer with close family ties to the Republican movement. His Interest van Holland (The Interests of Holland ) (1662) became a bestseller as was widely read and discussed. For the better part of a decade, the author and his book were subject to disciplinary procedures by church and state.
