About the Author

Pownall was Governor of the Colony of Virginia at the time when Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations was published in 1776. He was so impressed with the work that he wrote a lengthy "Letter” or review of it which can be found in the volume of the Correspondence of Adam Smith.
