THE WORKS OF
FRÉDÉRIC BASTIAT IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.
Related Links in the Library:
On this page we plan to list in chronological order the works of Frédéric
Bastiat. This will include his articles, pamphlets, and published books but
not his correspondence. A chronological list of his correspondence can be found
here (in
French). We will provide the date (if known), the title in English and French,
its place of original publication, its location in the 7-volume Guillaumin
French edition of his works, and its location in the Liberty Fund English translation
of his works. This is a work in progress as the volumes of the Liberty Fund
gradually appear over the next few years, beginning in early 2011.
Below are the volumes in Liberty Fund's translation of The Collected
Works of Frédéric
Bastiat, ed. Jacques de Guenin (Indianapolis: Liberty Fund, 2011). The
table of contents of each volume can be found here and will be added to as
each volume is published:
- Volume 1. The Man and the Statesman: The Correspondence
and Articles on Politics
- Volume 2. The Law, The State, and Other
Political Writings, 1843-1850
- Volume 3. Economic Sophisms and "What Is Seen and
What Is Not Seen"
- Volume 4. Miscellaneous Works on Economics: From Jacques
Bonhomme
to the Journal des Économistes
- Volume 5. Economic Harmonies
- Volume 6. The Struggle against Protectionism: The English
and French Free Trade Movements
We have used two French sources in preparing this translation of the Collected
Works of Frédéric Bastiat:
- Frédéric Bastiat, Lettres d'un habitant des Landes (Paris:
A. Quantin, 1877).
- Oeuvres complètes de Frédéric Bastiat, mises en
ordre, revues et annotées d’après les manuscrits de
l’auteur. Ed. Prosper Paillottet and biographical essay by Roger
de Fontenay. (Paris: Guillaumin, 1st ed. 1854-55, 6 vols; 2nd ed. 1862-64,
7 vols; 3rd ed. 1870-73; 4th ed. 1878-79; 5th ed. 1881-84; 6th ed. 1907).
The tables of contents of the French edition can be found at this
page.
