Problems viewing the PLL
using IE8
|
The 5th edition of the Portable Library of Liberty data DVD is now available.
It contains 1,002 titles from the OLL in EBook PDF format and 36 hours of MP3
audio from our audio collection. It is a subset of the much larger OLL website
and contains HTML pages and other files such as PDFs and mp3 audio files.
Most browsers which are standards compliant have no trouble viewing the files
on the PLL data DVD, such as Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. They read the files
on the PLL DVD just as they do the same files on the OLL website.
With MicroSoft's IE8 there are controls to prevent you doing the same thing
as easily as the other browsers. It blocks the opening of these files on local
networks, such as a DVD player or a Flash Drive, unless you have "enabled"
the use of ActiveX material. When you insert the DVD and attempt to open the
index.html file a box will pop up asking you if you want to enable ActiveX
material. Say yes to this request and the PLL will open as it should. You will
then be able to enjoy the new feature on the front page of the PLL, namely
the box which shows a randomly selected quotation about liberty and power from
our collection of nearly 250.
If you are using an older version of IE, such as IE7, you will be able to
view all the content on the PLL DVD excpet for the randomly selected quotation
on the front page. We suggest you update your browser to IE8 or, better, use
Firefox or Safari.

complimentary copy and include your postal address and indicate your browser
preference (Firefox/Safari or IE8).
