My dear Sir

I am in the act of dressing, and can only ask you, whether there is not an error in the inclosed at the top of the Page marked G. and which instead of £250,000, you ought not to have put down £750,000, being the fourth part of three Millions.2 —It has puzzled me a good deal, on my way up, and I did not at first understand its making any part of the calculation; but by substituting £750,000 for £250,000, I now think it correct—If it be an oversight on your part, it affects the whole Series of Calculation from 1801 downwards, but the effect of the Alteration will be to show a greater annual profit than you have stated.

Have the goodness to return me the inclosed to Taplow from where I sent you two Covers this Morning, and where I shall be till Monday, after the Post comes in, when I shall return to Town.

I am My dear Sir very truly yours.

Pascoe Grenfell.

David Ricardo Esq

[1 ]MS in R.P.—Dictated; signed by Grenfell.

[2 ]This part of the calculation (which from what follows appears to refer to the three millions lent by the Bank to Government in 1800; see above, IV, 121) is not to be found in the published Economical and Secure Currency.
