Cantata CLXVIII.

Thue Rechnung! Donnerwort. Ninth Sunday after Trinity (c. 1725)

The words and melody of the concluding Choral are Bartholomaus Ringwaldt’s Lenten Hymn, “Herr Jesu Christ, du hochstes Gut” (see Cantatas 48 and 113).

The words are the eighth stanza of the Hymn:

  • Stark’ mich mit deinem Freudengeist,
  • Heil’ mich mit deinen Wunden;
  • Wasch’ mich mit deinem Todesschweiss
  • In meinen letzten Stunden;
  • Und nimm mich einst, wenn dir’s gefallt,
  • In wahrem1 Glauben von der Welt
  • Zu deinen Auserwählten.
