To [THOMAS CADELL]1

MS., NYPL Montague Coll.; unpubl.

Dear Sir

I received two days ago the enclosed letter from Mr Coope of Clapham2 to whom I have not the honour of being known. I have taken the liberty to desire him to deliver the Papers alluded to sealed up to you and that you would find some safe and easy method of conveying them to me. I hope you will excuse this freedom. I should be glad you could [send] me along with them the last volume of the Philosophical transactions. I have often given you trouble about this before.

I should be glad to hear something about the good or bad success of my new edition.3 You may safely tell me the truth as I am grown almost perfectly indifferent both as to praise and as to abuse. Remember me most affectionately to Strahan and believe me to be

My Dear Sir Most faithfully

Yours Adam Smith
