From THE DUKE OF BUCCLEUCH

  • Address: Adam Smith Esqr.

MS., GUL Gen. 1035/174; Scott 311

My Dear Sir

I took the first opportunity in my power of speaking to Mr Dundas about Dr Cullens Daughters.1 The enclosed letter will give you pleasure, and I have no doubt public satisfaction. Ministers seldom gain much credit by granting of Pensions, but in this case, I am sure, Mr Pitt and Mr Dundas will be much commended. I hope this fine weather will restore you to your usual strength, I wish you could go to Dalkeith House for sometime, I am sure the Country Air and gentle exercise will be of service to you. I need not tell you how much I am interested in what ever concerns you, I should be ungrateful if I did not feel, as I do, with regard to your health and happiness. We have long lived in friendship, uninterrupted for one single moment since we first were acquainted. I hope soon to hear from you.

Yours sincerely

Buccleugh
