[George Cunningham, Deputy Collector of Customs at Greenock, asks Smith to favour his application to be made Collector or Comptroller when Glasgow and Greenock become separate divisions. The letter accompanies a memorial addressed to Henry Dundas as Treasurer of the Navy. Smith forwarded the memorial on 1 Sept. 1788; see Letter 280.]
