CRITTENDEN

CRITTENDEN, John Jordan, was born in Woodford county, Ky., Sept. 10, 1786, and died at Louisville, Ky., July 25, 1863. He was United States senator 1817-19, 1835-41, 1842-8, and 1855-61; was attorney general under Harrison and Fillmore (see ADMINISTRATIONS, XIV., XVI).; and was a representative in congress 1861-3. (See WHIG PARTY, III.; COMPROMISES, VI).
