BUTLER, Benj. F.

BUTLER, Benj. F., was born at Deerfield, N. H., Nov. 5, 1818, was graduated at Waterville college in 1838, and practiced law in Lowell, Mass. Until 1860 he was a democrat. He served through the rebellion as major general, and was a representative in congress (republican) 1867-75 and 1877-9. In 1878 and 1879 he was the candidate of the greenback party for governor, and in both years was supported by the mass of the democrats.
