BOUTWELL

BOUTWELL, George Sewall, was born at Brookline, Mass., Jan. 28, 1818; was admitted to the bar in 1850; was governor of Massachusetts 1851-2; was a representative in congress (republican) 1863-9 (see RECONSTRUCTION); was secretary of the treasury 1869-73, and United States senator 1873-7.
